Peab announces SEK 1.5 billion contract on Gothenburg鈥檚 West Link
16 April 2024
As was announced in February, Sweden-based contractor Peab has signed on for the West Link railway project, which will service Gothenburg, Sweden, and the surrounding locality. The newest scope of work is estimated at SEK 1.5 billion (US$138 million).

Commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration, the company said it will be working on the Haga-Rosenlund section of the scheme, which seeks to build new rail lines and revamp rail transportation in the country鈥檚 second-largest metro area.
鈥淗aga-Rosenlund is an important hub in Gothenburg鈥檚 public transport network and the station will contribute to increased accessibility in the area,鈥 said Berth Larsson, Peab region manager.
The Haga work is divided into five contracts, Peab said: one installation contract and four construction agreements.
鈥淧eab has now been awarded the first construction contract, Rosenlund, which is one of Sweden鈥檚 most challenging civil engineering projects,鈥 said the company. 鈥淭he assignment means that Peab will build part of the underground commuter train station over a distance of about 250m (820 ft).鈥
The construction contract had an immediate start date, and the project is expected to be complete in 2029.
Tight urban construction for West Link rail build
The firm added that city density aspect of the scheme will present challenges.
鈥淭he construction contract is located in the middle of the core of Haga and great consideration must be given to the surroundings,鈥 said Peab.
The underground train station will have three entrances built in several platforms, with four tracks, and two mezzanine levels 鈥 one with space for a bicycle garage and another that terminates at the Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law.
