Vinci-led consortium will build the new line 18 viaduct as part of the Grand Paris Express metro project

A consortium led by Vinci Construction Grands Projets has been awarded a 鈧193 million contract to build a viaduct for the Grand Paris Express metro project in Paris, France.

Grand Projets, Dodin Campenon Bernard, Chantiers Modernes Construction, Freyssinet (all Vinci Construction subsidiaries) and Fayat Group subsidiary Razel-Bec were selected by the Soci茅t茅 du Grand Paris - the government agency responsible for the Grand Paris project.

The new viaduct will measure 6.7km in length and will be situated towards the middle of the city鈥檚 number 18 metro line, between Massy-Palaiseau and the future overhead CEA Saint-Aubin station. The works, including all civil engineering, will also connect ten stations from Orly airport to Versailles. A maximum of around 400 people are expected to be employed in the viaduct鈥檚 construction.

Vinci said the viaduct contract would contribute to the development of the city鈥檚 Plateau de Saclay area, which is home to a number of research labs, university campuses and higher education establishments.

The viadcut contract for the Grand Paris Express, which is said to be the largest urban transit project currently under construction in Europe, forms part of the city鈥檚 Grand Paris project.

The Grand Paris Express project will see the construction of four new automated rapid transit lines. Designed to serve around 2 million passengers a day, the project includes the building of 200km of new track, 68 new stations and extensions to the Paris鈥檚 existing number 11 and 14 lines.

Earlier this year the Soci茅t茅 du Grand Paris also awarded a to a joint venture company comprising Vinci Construction and Spie Batignolles, for work on the first section of Line 18.
