Major US airport terminal project expands scope as traffic booms

The redesign will increase the number of gates from 15 to 31 and make Terminal F a dedicated hub for American Airlines.

New features include a premium check-in lobby, expanded lounge areas, a new parking garage, and a Skylink train station connecting Terminals D and F.

Terminal F is part of DFW鈥檚 $9 billion capital improvement programme, which also includes a $3 billion renovation of Terminal C, along with upgrades to roadways, parking, and airfield infrastructure.

Construction on Terminal F began in 2024. The design and delivery team includes AECOM, HDR, PGAL, and Hensel Phelps. Terminal D expansion will be delivered by Skanska.

The first phase of Terminal F is expected to open in 2027, with full completion targeted for 2030.

DFW CEO Sean Donohue said the new terminal reflects the airport鈥檚 rapid growth and American鈥檚 increasing footprint at the site. In 2023, DFW was the third-busiest airport in the world by passenger volume.
